Shanghai Bluesoul and Northern Marine Group Team Up on EGCS


A further advancement in the quest for Green Shipping has been marked by an agreement between Shanghai Bluesoul Environmental Technology CO. Ltd, (SBET) a professional marine environment protection company, and Northern Marine Group (NMG), an integrated marine services provider, specialising in ship management.


Northern Marine Group - a fully owned subsidiary of Stena AB - will, through its subsidiary companies, act as the exclusive agent in the sale of SBET’s three exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS) in Europe and Singapore.


The Investment Framework Agreement was co-signed at NMG’s Shanghai office, by Mr Yao Hao, Chairman, Shanghai Bluesoul and Mr Philip Fullerton, Managing Director, Northern Marine Group on 30th October 2017.


At the signing, Yao said: “We are honoured to cooperate deeply with Northern Marine Group, and strive together for better technology and services for the betterment of the marine environment.”


Philip added: “Shanghai Bluesoul is an emerging company full of passion and potential. This landmark agreement evidences Northern Marine Group’s commitment to collaborate with and support Shanghai Bluesoul in the sale of their exhaust gas cleaning systems which will advance green shipping and aid our clients with the Global Sulphur CAP 2020 regulation.”  


Northern Marine Group provides a full spectrum of ship management services including technical and personnel vessel management, marine and offshore supplies, engineering and naval architecture services, and marine and offshore training.


The signing of the agreement with Northern Marine Group is an important milestone for Shanghai Bluesoul Environmental Technology CO. Ltd, in its objective to be the leading solution provider of ship exhaust treatment.


Prior to the agreement, technical staff from both companies have been working together on an EGCS retrofit project on Stena Bulk tankers.



Northern Marine Group subsidiary companies manage over 170 vessels of various types including oil and chemical tankers, gas carriers, RO-PAX and RORO ferries.


With an 8000-strong pool of marine and offshore personnel, Northern Marine has extensive experience of managing multinational crews. The company’s shore-based workforce of 500 is strategically located in offices in the United Kingdom, Sweden, USA, India, Russia, Singapore, China and Australia.


Northern Marine Group has also been appointed as a non-exclusive agent in the sale of Shanghai Bluesoul Environmental Technology Co Ltd in regions outwith Europe and Singapore.


Shanghai Bluesoul Environmental Technology Co Ltd is the first Chinese enterprise awarded Lloyd's Register Exhaust Gas Cleaning System Machinery General Design Appraisal as well as DNV GL & ABS AiP.
